LYSOL 200 TEST DAY NOTES AND QUOTES
On Wednesday, June 18, several NASCAR Busch Grand National drivers participated in a test day here at the Glen. In spite of a few showers, most were able to get some track time in by mid-afternoon.
ELLIOTT SADLER - "I rode around in a rental car this morning, and I really like it. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, I enjoy road racing on go-karts a lot...I want to get used to the shifting. That's the main deal we came up here for. Maybe the Man Upstairs will side with us a little bit and bring us a little clear weather so we can get out there and make a few laps. Butch Leitzinger's up here to help me some. He's an expert at road courses like this , but I've raced road courses for 8 years in go-karts, and so did my brother, and his advice was that it's the same concept, you're just driving a whole lot bigger piece of machinery with a whole lot more horsepower. I just want to get out for a few laps to learn as much as I can about the course and about shifting so that we'll have a fair shake at it. It's always good racing here because it's so flat - it's really not a horsepower track, it's a lot of handling. We've really got to drive the cars on the edge to keep up. It puts the cars in the driver's hands, and I think that makes for good racing."
JOE PEZZA - "Hopefully, going back to a road course we should do pretty well. This car... we've put some new equipment in it, a new engine... I think it's going to fun pretty good. Stock cars have a little softer suspension and it's a little different in the braking, but it'll be about the same as driving sportscars. I like NASCAR and the Busch stuff really well. It's very competitive, and it really is a good place to go racing." Watdins Glen is something of a "hometown" for Pezza, and he returns not only to the old course but to and old team as well. "I did my first GTO race with Scott Flatt maybe 4 or 5 years ago, and then I went on with (Tommy) Riggins for a couple of years. Then I saw Scott on the way back from a race, and he said he had a couple of Busch cars, and I got started with him again."
JACK BALDWIN - Baldwin attended the test in a training capacity working with Lyndon Amick. "The last couple of years I've worked with Robert Pressley and Steve Grissom, and now Lyndon. They've asked me to help him become a more proficient road racer, because it's something that they don't do all the time. I enjoy it . It's good to be on the race track, driving a race car."
