Watkins Glen, NY (May 31, 2001) - NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division drivers return to Watkins Glen International with a vengeance and much to learn in their first test session of 2001 June 6 and 7 at the only road course on their schedule. Among those testing is Jimmie Johnson in his No. 92 Excedrin Chevrolet, who returns to take his first laps around the course after his widely publicized crash of 2000. Johnson's car left the course after losing its brakes going into Turn One and charged full-speed into the Styrofoam blocks. Johnson wasn't injured and quickly jumped on the roof of his car to celebrate.
Hank Parker Jr., the newest member in the locally-owned Cicci-Welliver Racing stable in his No. 36 GNC Live Well Chevrolet, comes to The Glen with more experience under his belt with his run last year with Team Amick Motorsports in the Motorola Cup, now known as Grand-Am Cup. Parker Jr. and co-driver Lyndon Amick drove the No. 53 Dodge Viper to a sixth place finish in last August's Bosch Sports Car Summerfest.
Also traveling to the historic course are Elton Sawyer in the No. 98 Starter/Hot Tamales Ford, who returns without the long-time support of Lysol, sponsor of last year's Lysol 200, and the 1996 and 1997 NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division Champion, Randy LaJoie, driver of the No. 7 Kleenex Chevrolet. This year's Rolex 24 winner, Ron Fellows, will also be fine-tuning his abilities at The Glen as he prepares for his appearance in both the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Winston Cup Series races.
