NASCAR on Friday ejected Reed Sorenson's crew chief Brian Pattie and crew member Brandon Stafford after they used an unapproved substance on Sorenson's tires. The team was in violation of Section 20A- 10.8.4-P of the NASCAR Busch series rule book (tires, that in judgment of NASCAR Officials, have been altered by unauthorized treatment will not be permitted).

The original tires were confiscated from the team forcing them to purchase new tires to run the event. It was suspected that the team was "soaking" tires; a method of doctoring the tires to enhance grip on the racetrack. A variety of chemicals is applied to the tires in an attempt to 'soften' them which improves their performance on the racetrack.

Joe Balash, the Busch Series Director, prohibited the No. 41 from qualifying the car. Sorenson will have to start at the rear of the field for Friday nights Food City 250.

It is considered a serious offense. Additional penalties and fines will be announced by NASCAR next week.

Sorenson is currently third in Busch series points, but will most likely be docked driver and owner points by the sanctioning body.
