The music city is the next stop for the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division. Instead of the traditional Easter weekend stop in Hickory, teams will visit the Nashville for the Bellsouth Mobility 320 at Nashville Speedway, U.S.A. The.596-mile race track is the first short track event of the 1999 race season. Todd Bodine, driver of the Phillips 66 Chevrolet, has competed in two events at Nashville Speedway and has been in contention to win both times.
"I've raced at Nashville twice and probably should have won both of them," Bodine said. "In 1996, I was leading with about 30 laps to go and got caught up in an accident. In 1997 we had a car capable of winning but the pit stops didn't go our way.
"Nashville is pure short track racing and track position is real important. If you start too far back in the field you could find yourself going a lap down pretty early. There tends to be a lot of wrecks and you have to be on your toes the whole time."
The car Bodine will compete with this weekend in Nashville is a new car to the Cicci-Welliver Racing stables. The newest addition to the Cicci-Welliver Racing stables has been christened "Twister."
Bodine and the Phillips 66 Performance Team will appear at the Wildhorse Saloon on Thursday, April 1, as part of a fundrainser for the Tennessee Organ Donors organization. Bodine will sign autographs from 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday.
Bodine Favorite: Bodine's favorite type of music is country and soft rock.
