Todd Bodine The Milwaukee Mile
NASCAR Busch Series Notes
On Milwaukee: The NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division makes its annual Fourth of July weekend visit to The Milwaukee Mile this weekend for the running of the DieHard 250. Milwaukee is a track in which Bodine has limited experience. It is one of the only tracks visited by the Busch Series where Bodine has not produced a top-10 finish. The Phillips 66 Performance Team hopes to end that drought with a win this weekend at The Milwaukee Mile.
"There really isn't a lot to racing Milwaukee," Bodine said. "The most important thing is tires. You have to save your tires. The pavement is so abrasive that it really wears the tires down. Plus the turns at Milwaukee are pretty long, which makes it even rougher on the right side tires."
Crew chief Donnie Richeson explained that Milwaukee's symmetry is what sets it apart from some of the other facilities visited by the NASCAR Busch Series.
"The track is pretty simple," Richeson explained. "It doesn't have its own niche other than it is pretty symmetrical in that its corners and straightaways are exactly the same. Because tire wear is such an issue, the chassis set-up has to be pretty close to perfect to do well at Milwaukee." Equipment: "Twister" is the car Bodine will compete with this weekend at The Milwaukee Mile. Since making its debut in Nashville, "Twister" finished fifth (Nashville) and ninth at New Hampshire.
Last weekend in Watkins Glen: Bodine posted his 10th top-10 finish of the 1999 Busch Series season last weekend at Watkins Glen, starting from 33rd to finish in ninth place.
"It was good to get another top-10 finish but we know we had a car capable of winning that race," Bodine said. "The Phillips 66 Chevy handled great all day. We just didn't have anything for the leaders on the straightaways. It feels good to get another good finish in front of the hometown crowd."
Bodine Favorite: Bodine's favorite movie is Caddyshack.
