Concord, N.C. (October 19, 2000) - Tim Fedewa, driver of the No. 36 Stanley car in the NASCAR Busch Series, is recovering at home today after being injured late Wednesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in Concord near the Cicci-Welliver race shop. Fedewa, 33, cracked three vertebrate in his back and has several cuts and abrasions. The accident happened at about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Pitts School Road and U.S. 29 South when a car pulled out in front of Fedewa's 2000 Springer Softtail Harley Davidson motorcycle. Fedewa was kept overnight at North East Medical Center in Concord for observation. He was released late Thursday morning and will visit an orthopedist next week. Fedewa, who is currently 16th in points, does not plan to drive this weekend in Rockingham, and he is race-by-race for the final three races of the season pending medical evaluation. Team co-owner Frank Cicci said veteran Winston Cup driver Geoffrey Bodine has been chosen to fill-in in Fedewa's absence. "I feel okay," Fedewa said on Wednesday night. "The doctor said this is just something that is going to take time, and that I'm going to have to let heal itself. I'll be back soon though." "It was an unfortunate incident that happened a mile from the shop," Cicci said. "Myself and Tim's whole crew went to the hospital as soon as we got the news. "Tim was very lucky. We look forward to having him as good as new, but we don't want him to do anything that will jeopardize his future health and career. Until Tim is better, we are dedicated to putting a capable driver in his place to keep the car and the team running up front. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and the family."
