JON WOOD-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Finished 8th)
"What's funny is that we didn't take a top-10 car today and finish in the top 10. We didn't have a top-10 car and we did, and I'm just sitting here and looking back on what I could have done differently at all of these other races because I obviously had a top-five car. That's the only thing I'm frustrated about. The good thing about it is that we came back from 20th with 40 to go and finished eighth."
HAVE THE MILE-AND-A-HALF TRACKS BECOME THIS TEAM'S STRONG SUIT? "These mile-and-a-half tracks are where we're going to accelerate a lot. We've got good stuff for these places. Evidently we have good short track stuff too, because Jay (Guy) was very successful last year and I think I did my fair share of good short-track racing, so I think if you put us together anywhere it's going to be a winning combination."
DAVID GREEN-27-Scott Extra Soft/Brookshire's Ford Taurus (Finished 11th) - "The race track was so different from Thursday when we ran. It reminded me a lot of Rockingham, which is a lot of fun. We had to really work on our car there to get the balance back where it needed to be, but once we got it back to where it needed to be it was pretty good. Stewart (Cooper) made a good call on pit strategy to get us good track position and we gave up a few laps on our tires to stay up there. We'll get it here pretty soon, but it's been a long, hard struggle, but I'm proud of my Ford and all of my guys on what they're doing on the team."
ARE THERE TWO DISTINCT RACING GROOVES NOW? "Yes. This is exactly what the track needed - a hot sunny day and the tires to wear to out and slide around. It was perfect."
KENNY WALLACE-22-Stacker 2 Ford Taurus (Finished 9th)
"We are just a little bit off of making our front ends turns. Once we nail that I think we can produce closer finishes. We've got ourselves a good team, we're just working on making the front end turn better."
HOW DIFFERENT WAS THE RACING SURFACE THIS YEAR COMPARED TO PAST RACES HERE? "It was a lot slower, so what happens is that you get the car ready for high speed and you go fast in qualifying and you go fast in practice, and this track is very temperamental when somebody is in front of you. You could hardly use any gas. It becomes a short track in the race even though it's a big track. You don't use much throttle. In practice and qualifying you go wide open and it's crazy, but in the race you just can't drive it that hard. So, when you lose the font end you hit the wall."
JASON KELLER-35-McDonald's Ford Taurus (Finished 13th)
"We battled hard all day long, but that's kind of the way this race team is. We just stay in there hard, and halfway through the race, right there in the middle part of the race, I thought we were about as good as anybody. We're getting better, though. This is a race track similar to Atlanta, and we were better today than we were there, so we just have to keep building."
ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT A LOT OF THE BUSCH RACES THIS YEAR HAVE BEEN WON WITH TIRE STRATEGY? "No. You've got to be smart about it and know what you have to use. The ones that are successful are the ones that are doing that. We just have to keep doing what we're doing."
MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR.-10-ppc Racing Ford Taurus (Finished 21st)
"The car was pretty good on new tires, but on the start we went from the front to the back. That was tough to overcome, and on old tires we were no good."
AS A NEW DRIVER TO THIS SERIES, DOES THIS SCHEDULE HINDER YOU TO LEARN THE CARS AND THE RACE TRACKS? "I think it's good. We don't have happy Hour practice because we race the setup that we qualify with. I think that's good for me. I think it would be more difficult to work with two different kinds of setups. I like driving every weekend, and I think that's going to help me the most."
CARL EDWARDS-60-Charter Communications Ford Taurus (Finished 4th)
"That was unbelievable. We fought back. We had one bad green-flag run there with the Charter Ford, and then the rest of the day we moved forward. I just can't say enough about the race track. Texas Motor Speedway is a lot of fun, and running the high groove in three and four was the highlight of my day. We got in a hole there. We got a little bit of body damage and I think that hurt us all day. It was right under the Charter logo on the right rear. There was a little bit of damage and I think that hurt our side force all day, so we were just free the whole time. We finally got it dialed and it was pretty awesome there at the end, but still a little bit too free. I feel pretty good about a fourth place. I thought we were going to be about 10th."
ARE YOU STARTING TO POINTS RACE NOW? "I know for me personally, I can flip my switch off sometimes, where before I was like, 'I'm going to win or crash.' Now at least I can look at it realistically and say, 'Here we are in fourth position and Reed is one spot in front of us and this is as fast as I can go.' Sometimes I think it's good to have that kind of outlook, and right now is that time."
GREG BIFFLE-66-Duraflame Ford Taurus (Finished 2nd)
IT SEEMED LIKE YOU JUST RAN OUT OF TIME. "Yeah, really I did. The guys did a great job. This was a really good race car here. Newt and all of the guys did a good job on the Duraflame car, but we just ran out of time. One more lap and we would have been able to get up there and race with Kasey. Congratulations to Kasey; it was a big win for him. We were happy to come home second. We had a good run today and I think we have our program right where we need it. Our teammate ran great, so we're pretty excited."
ELLIOTT SADLER-90-CitiFinancial Ford Taurus (Finished 5th)
YOU MADE YOUR MOVE INTO THE TOP FIVE IN THE CLOSING LAPS. "It only counts at the end and we had a top-15, top-12 car most of the day on long runs, and the guys made great adjustments there at the end and got my CitiFinancial Ford good on the short run. Then with green-white-checkered, I just kind of got to the high side and had my momentum built up, and with these Busch cars you can do that, and had a great race with Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer. I'm proud of my guys. They had the car the best it was at the end. I would have liked to have won, but a top-five is a great, great finish for this Busch team."
NO DRIVER HAS EVER REPEATED CUP WINS HERE. "I know that. I definitely want to be the first two-time winner and hopefully that will happen tomorrow. I think my Cup car is really, really good and we learned some things today on air pressure, which is why we're running the Busch races and I think we're going to have a good showing tomorrow. We'll see what happens."
