Team Yellow shows competitors what a "yes we can" attitude can do
MADISON, IL (May 11, 2003) -- Team Yellow driver David Stremme and the entire crew are sending a message to the other competitors in the Busch Series -- that the race team is able to perform at a high level week in and week out and continue its run toward the championship. In his third Busch series start, Stremme piloted the #1 Dodge to a 14th place finish in the Charter Pipeline 250 at Gateway International Raceway, a strong finish that held the team's position of second in owner's points.
Weather was a concern early in the day as a tornado warning was issued at the track. All crews were ordered to head immediately for the tunnel to take cover. Several funnels were spotted, but none touched down near the track. Within 35 minutes the tension was over and the crews were all back working on their cars.
Team Yellow crew members worked their magic to give Stremme a car that would be competitive all day. Stremme started the event in the 18th position and was able to hold his ground against some of the best drivers in the world. On lap 75 Stremme fell back to 23rd position after making a green flag pit stop, but by lap 94 he was back up to 19th position, on his way to a 14th place finish. The Yellow Racing Crew made excellent pit stops all day. The team did go down one lap, as did many others, when they made a green flag pit stop.
When the race ended there were only 12 drivers on the lead lap. Scott Riggs in the #10 Ford won the race, David Green in the #37 Pontiac was second and Jason Keller in the # 57 Ford finished third. Mike Bliss, who led the most laps and was heading for his first career Busch Series win ran out of fuel on the final lap and ended up the last car on the lead lap.
"This was a really fun race today, I love to be competitive on the track. I can't say enough about this team and how professional they are, they give me great cars every time I climb behind the wheel," Stremme said. "I hope that we are making all of the Yellow Transportation employees proud. I also hope they realized that the "Yes We Can" attitude is what drives this team to perform."
Be sure to tune in next week for the Goulds Pumps ITT Industries 200 at Nazareth Speedway. Yellow will once again be the associate sponsor of the #1 Dodge. The race will be aired live on FX and broadcast live on MRN beginning at 1:00 ET on Sunday, May 18, 2003. Qualifying for the event will take place Saturday, May 17 at 3:35 pm ET and will be aired on Speedchannel.
