FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 13, 2000) - Ron Hornaday has been one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history. But his string of luck at Texas Motor Speedway has been anything but that for the California native. He is hoping his jump to the NASCAR Busch Series this year brings Lady Luck to his side in Texas. "As a kid, I dreamed of racing at some of the great race tracks in the country," Hornaday said. "Now, I can fulfill those dreams in the Busch Series. Texas, may be one of the newest speedways, but it is an awesome place to race as a driver." Driving in the truck series, Hornaday started on the outside of the second row in both Texas races last year. He finished 10th in the June race after running out of fuel. In October, Hornaday was again 10th after starting fourth. Two years ago, his misfortune in Texas occurred after 144 laps, when he exited the race with engine trouble. Hornaday will attempt to qualify for the April 1 NASCAR Busch Albertson's 300 presented by Pop Secret at Texas Motor Speedway. After winning the truck series championship in 1996 and 1998, he is driving full-time in 2000 in the Busch Series for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. "I don't feel any extra pressure driving in the #3 car," Hornaday said of the car number made famous by Earnhardt. "I don't see the number from the inside. And, I owe a lot to Dale Earnhardt for giving me a chance to drive trucks for him and now to race in the Busch series. My wife and I had spent everything we had and were going to give racing one last year when Dale gave me a ride in the truck series. Now, so many of the goals I never thought I could achieve are starting to happen." Hornaday, a Busch series Rookie-of-the-Year candidate, finished 16th last weekend in Atlanta, the highest finish among first year Busch drivers.
