BUSCH: Rockingham II: Raybestos Rookie qualifying notes

SHANE HMIEL in the ...

SHANE HMIEL in the #47 Mike's Hard Lemonade Chevrolet was the highest qualifying Raybestos® Rookie at Rockingham. Hmiel will start seventh in Saturday's Sam's Club 200. He took top qualifying Raybestos® Rookie honors for the fourth time this season. Hmiel was the top qualifying Raybestos® Rookie at Rockingham this past February, earning the second starting position.

"I'm happy. I'm sure that everybody recalls what happened last time I tried to drive through a loose race car here in qualifying. I crashed and started dead last. We didn't do that today. We came up a little short. That should put us in the top-10. I don't see why it shouldn't and now it's cooled off a pretty good bit. It was a good lap for us. I got a little loose in the middle of one and two and drove it on out and ran a tenth faster. We're okay. That ought to put us in the top-10. Rockingham is about lasting on old tires and we worked on our race setup this morning so hopefully we'll have something for them running in the top-10."

DID YOU THINK YOU HAD A SHOT AT THE POLE?

"I did. I thought I had a shot at it until I got a little loose in one and two. We could have driven through it but there is a chance of tearing this car up and that's not what we're wanting to do. We want to start in the top-10 and if we get the pole we do and if we don't we don't. It just got a little free on me. We're going to run in the top-10. We've been running in the top-10 about the last six weeks. We're turning it around, that's for sure."

HMIEL RAYBESTOS ROOKIE PRESS CONFERENCE

"The last time I was here we had a shot at the pole and qualified second and tried to drive through the looseness off two and crashed. We had the same thing today. I got a little loose in one and two and I just backed down instead of trying to get the pole and crashing. It's too hard to pass starting 43rd and not be a lap down as good as these front couple of cars are going to be. Starting seventh isn't bad; there are a lot of good advantages. You need to be up front. It takes the leaders a hard time to get around a lapped car so that gives you more time. You just need to stay on the lead lap the whole race and run in the top-10."
