TEAM MARINES RACING NOTES & QUOTES:
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. made his NASCAR Busch Series debut at the North Carolina Speedway four years ago this weekend where he finished 37th. Four years later, he is having the best season of his career posting his first win, five top-five and 14 top-ten finishes. He heads to "The Rock" this weekend with high hopes of conquering the track where it all began.
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on The Rock:
"'The Rock" is special to me because that's where I competed in my first Busch Series race. It's a tricky track and every lap is a challenge. It's one of those short tracks where you race the track more than you race your competitors. Patience is the key to this place. The track is so abrasive that it'll just eat up your tires. After ten laps you'll wish you could come back in and get new ones because you'll be sliding all over the place. If you are too aggressive, you'll wear the tires out even faster so you have to pick the right moments to make a pass. But on the other hand, passing is tough so when you have even a small shot you have to go for it. If you can find the setup to make the car good on long runs and on worn out tires and keep your patience in check you'll have a good day."
Fred Wanke on The Rock:
"Rockingham may not be as old as Darlington, but it can be just as tough," said Wanke. "This place will eat up some tires, but that's what makes it interesting. It's quite a challenge to get set up for and be good on the long runs, once the tires wear down. It's all about having a good handling race car. The right handling package will separate the really good cars from the mediocre cars."
The No. 25 Team Marines will compete with chassis No. 17, better known as "Pac Man," in the Sam's Club 200. "Pac Man" is the car in which Hamilton, Jr. scored his first NASCAR Busch Series win at New Hampshire International Speedway in May. "Pac Man" also has three top-ten finishes: Nazareth (6th), Milwaukee (7th), Indianapolis (31st).
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. will join the United States Marine Corps at "Thunderfest" in downtown Rockingham on Thursday, October 31 from 5-6:30pm where he will greet fans and sign autographs.
