JASON KELLER-22-Miller High Life Light Ford Taurus (Qualified 23rd)
"It was a lot better than we practiced, so we made big gains. I'm not sure where that will stack up. We have a great race car for the race, so hopefully that will get us a decent starting spot tomorrow so I don't have to climb my way back tomorrow."
HOW ARE THE TRACK CONDITIONS? "It's got a lot of grip. I think it's going to hold up. It's just a lot cooler than when we were here earlier in the year so it's a lot faster."
MIKE MCLAUGHLIN-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 12th)
"It was good. I'll tell you what, Harold Holly is good. He made some adjustments, and his stuff, the harder you drive it the better it goes, so I'm kind of learning as I go here. It's a great organization, the whole Team Marines."
WERE YOU ABLE TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE CAR IN QUALIFYING TODAY? "You always say that you left a little bit out there. It was just a little free in, but it stayed under me good. About the time I went back to the throttle I started to bog the nose a little bit and lost a little bit of time there."
WITH THIS BEING YOUR FIRST TIME HERE SINCE THE TRACK WAS REPAVED, WILL THE LACK OF HAPPY HOUR PRACTICE PUT YOU AT A DISADVANTAGE TOMORROW? "I think a little bit, but Harold will make up for what we don't have. I haven't been here in a little over a year. It's smooth and it seems to have more grip. I guess it had a lot of grip in the spring. It's a good race track; it's the best I've ever gone here."
MARK MARTIN-9-Pennzoil Ford Taurus (Qualified 13th)
"That was all right. It was faster than I thought it would be. We didn't get it exactly right for qualifying, but it was really awesome. It was a little loose and that was the fastest I could go and keep it tucked under me. The Pennzoil car is OK for the race. It's kind of like a turtle, it will start off slow but those guys that can run are going to back up, I'm sure. When my car feels right and they can run two or three tenths faster, they'll back up in 30 laps and back up past us. That's what I usually see and that's what I expect tomorrow night."
YOU'VE HAD A LOT OF PAST SUCCESS HERE IN THE BUSCH SERIES. "I've had some success here and it's a good place to race, but as far as Busch racing goes, it's not the most fun place that I've ever run. I like the mile-and-half tracks in the Busch car, but this is a great place to race. I think we have a decent car. I don't think it's a car that's going to be a contender to win if we have a bunch of cautions, which they always do. It's more of a late bloomer."
GREG BIFFLE-60-Charter/CNN Headline News Ford Taurus (Qualified 15th)
"I barely saved it there. It's the same way it is ever week in qualifying. It's never a lack of effort, it's a lack of having the car right. It seems like we can never get it perfect for qualifying. I think we're pretty good in race trim, though. If we ever get the rear to grip, we'll be up there fighting for the win. I haven't had any grip in the back since we got here and I don't know what's wrong with the car, but we'll get it figured out."
STACY COMPTON-59-Kingsford/Bush's Beans Ford Taurus (Qualified 8th)
YOU WERE ON THE RPM LIMITER MORE THAN MOST DRIVERS IN QUALIFYING. DID THAT HURT YOUR RUN? "I think it helped. I'll tell you what, I'm awful proud of the guys on the Kingsford Ford. We call it stupid-proof. It doesn't let the driver overdrive the corner. We knew in qualifying that we should run a little bit quicker. We knew we were going to hit it and elected to leave it in there so I wouldn't overdrive it. I'm awful proud of these guys. They're working real hard and each week they're getting better and better, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year."
YOU TESTED HERE A FEW WEEKS AGO. HOW MUCH DID THAT HELP YOU TODAY? "I don't know. A lot of people came up here and tested. We've just worked so hard the last few weeks to try to get us back in the ballpark. Last week, I feel that we should have had a top-10 finish, but we had a problem in the pits. The week before we ran great. This team is coming together and week-in and week-out we're getting better and better. I think we're going to be pretty good for the race. The car was really good in practice. When we came here and tested we didn't work on anything as far as qualifying, all we did was race runs and I think we have a pretty good package."
ARE THE TRACK CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE FOR SIDE-BY-SIDE RACING? "It has the most grip since the spring. In the spring it had more grip here than I've ever seen. New asphalt, and as the race goes on, hopefully the groove is going to widen up. Right now it's pretty narrow. I think as the day goes on tomorrow with Cup cars, and with the trucks and IROC tonight, I think it's going to widen on up a little bit."
