PJ Makes Inaugural Run at Pikes Peak:

Driver of the #19 Yellow/Pameco Chevy, PJ Jones, will race at Pikes Peak for the first time in his career. When asked how to prepare for a new track, Jones commented: "I'll definitely take a look at some tapes of previous races and probably get in a rental car and drive the track. I've seen it before and it looks really wide which means we're going to get a chance to really race and that's what I prefer." Crew chief, George Church added: "One of the best ways PJ can prepare himself for a new track is to play one of those NASCAR computer games. It amazes me how accurate they are."

Having This Guy Around Might Help:

PJ's father, racing legend Parnelli Jones, is expected to attend this weekend's events at PPIR. "It will be great to have my Dad around," PJ Jones said, "especially at a new track. He's very observant and knows my driving style probably better than anyone. He'll be very helpful. He was known for his ability to adapt to new racetracks and compete as if he'd raced there all his life." Although Parnelli Jones has never raced at PPIR, he has competed in higher elevations of the city. In 1963 and '64, he took Bill Stroppe's Mercury to victory lane in the famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

. . .And the Crew Chief's Stats Aren't Too Bad, Either:

George Church definitely brings valuable experience to PPIR. As a crew chief in the truck series, Church has recorded two top-ten finishes (8th with Rick Crawford in 1999 and 4th with Rick Carrelli in '98) in addition to a win with Carelli in the Remax Challenge Series. "Pikes Peak is one of the fastest one-mile tracks we race, even faster than Milwaukee and Phoenix," Church commented. "We've rebuilt the car we used at Dover, we're using a standard snout instead of drop-snout and the motor package is stronger. We feel very prepared for this race which makes PJ feel more confident about going to a new track."

The "NAPA Auto Care 250" will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and MRN on Saturday, July 22 at 3:30 p.m. eastern.
