FOUNTAIN, CO (July 26, 2003) -- Team Yellow Racing, with rookie sensation David Stremme at the helm, ran in the top 10 throughout most of the Trim Spa Dream Body 250 this weekend. Moving up quickly, the #1 Yellow Dodge reached third place at one point, as the team worked all day to adjust the car's loose condition. Stremme's direction to tighten the #1 in the final pit stop, however, left the car unable to hold its position. As a result, Yellow Racing finished 11th, its sixteenth Top 15 finish in 2003.
Driver Scott Wimmer won the race, Jason Keller finished second, and Scott Riggs finished third.
As a Busch Series rookie, Stremme has been learning a lot about unfamiliar tracks, such as the Pikes Peak International Raceway. He's also been learning about making friends with drivers who have been (or may be) on the receiving end of a rookie driving mistake.
David Stremme went out of his way this weekend to grow the number of friends he has on the race track, launching the "Yellow Racing - Making Friends Tour 2003" in Pikes Peak by handing out tour t-shirts to a number of Busch series drivers.
The t-shirt demonstrates David Stremme's great sense of humor, which has become popular in the series this season. He has made many friends among the other drivers, but he is aware some will hold a grudge, which is why he wanted to have fun with it. It is Stremme's way of saying let bygones be bygones.
"I think the new shirt is great; it's been the talk of the garage and people are really getting a kick out of it," Stremme said.
Several of Stremme's friends, some of whom he has history with on the track, wore the t-shirts on race day, posing for the NBC TV cameras. The drivers included David Green, Scott Riggs, Ashton Lewis, Jr., Kasey Kahne, Hank Parker, Jr., Jeff Fuller and Tim Fedewa. Everyone had a lot of fun with the t-shirts before the race. During the race Stremme had some great on track battles with both David Green and Ashton Lewis, Jr. You can bet they were not thinking about friendship then.
David Stremme will continue handing out the "Making Friends Tour 2003" t-shirts this season to fellow drivers. The shirts are available to the public at the Yellow Racing trackside souvenir trailer.
The NASCAR Busch Series will be at Indianapolis Raceway Park for the Kroger 200 on Saturday, August 2 with driver David Stremme behind the wheel. In his five previous races at IRP, Stremme has three wins. Yellow will be the associate sponsor of the #1 car this week. The race will be aired live on TNT and broadcast live on MRN beginning at 8:00 p.m. EDT. Qualifying for the event will take place Saturday, August 2 at 4:35 p.m. EDT and will be aired on the Speed Channel.
