DEFENDING CHAMPIONS - For the first time in NASCAR Busch Series history, the Owners' Championship and the Drivers' Championship were split in 2003. The No. 21 PAYDAY Chevrolet team won the Owners' Championship in commanding fashion, clinching the title at Rockingham with one race remaining in the season. The team finished 261 points ahead of the No. 5 team of Brian Vickers, who claimed the Drivers' Championship. In 2004, the No. 21 Chevrolet carries the REESE'S peanut butter cups colors as the team attempts to defend its title. Harvick will compete in 20 of the 34 Busch Series events this season, and rookie driver Clint Bowyer will drive the No. 21 REESE'S Chevy in the remaining 14 events on the schedule.
ONE YEAR AGO -Harvick set the Busch Series qualifying record at PIR. He also put together a second-place effort in the race after leading a majority of the event.
BUSY HARVICK - This weekend's events at Phoenix will be hectic for Harvick, but so has the last month. Beginning three weeks ago at Charlotte, Harvick has driven in five races, including three Nextel Cup races, two Busch Series races and an IROC race. Harvick will pull "double duty" this weekend, as well as at Darlington and Homestead, by competing in both the Busch Series and Nextel Cup Series events.
DID YOU KNOW? -Harvick has yet to win a Busch Series pole this season. In 2003, Harvick won five Busch Series poles. He has 11 career Busch poles.
THE CAR - This week, crew chief Ricky Viers will load chassis No. 024 onto the REESE'S transporter. The car is one of the team's favorites. Bowyer has driven the car three times this season. He drove the car at both Nashville events (finished fourth and third, respectively) and two weeks ago at Memphis (finished fourth).
QUICK QUOTES AND NOTES:
Crew chief Ricky Viers on Harvick at Phoenix - "Kevin has been very solid at Phoenix. He put together a great run there last year, and he's also got two second-place finishes to his credit there. He tested his Cup car there, which won't directly benefit us, but it will be good for Kevin by gathering seat time. We're also taking a great car for these mile tracks, so I'm optimistic that we'll unload well."
