NBS Notes:

* Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger, returns to the 1-mile Phoenix International Raceway to attempt to qualify for his 10th career NASCAR Busch Series race -- his eighth this season -- on Saturday.

* Hornish made his NASCAR Busch Series debut a year ago at PIR.

* Out of six IndyCar starts, Hornish has two wins and three top-five finishes at Phoenix.

* If Hornish qualifies for both NASCAR Busch and NEXTEL Cup Series events, this will be Hornish's first double-duty weekend.

* Matt Gimbel, crew chief of the No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger, will take chassis PBC-014 to this weekend's ARIZONA TRAVEL 200. Ryan Newman last drove this car to a third place finish at Richmond in September. This is also the same car that Hornish piloted at Michigan.

* The backup car for Texas, chassis PBC-017, is a new car.

Hornish on Phoenix International Raceway: "I'm really looking forward to going back to the site of my Busch Series debut and applying what I learned a year ago. Hopefully, we'll qualify for both Busch and Cup races and get the opportunity to gain more experience."

Gimbel on Phoenix International Raceway: "Since his first Busch race last year at Phoenix, I think Sam's come a long way. His feedback is miles better than when he started. I've seen him develop to the point now where he's being patient with the car, finding out where the car is at and what it can do while still being able to affectively maintain position. His racing sense has really matured. The car and Sam are definitely capable of a top-10 qualifying position and a top-15 finish."
