"I really like this track out in the desert here. It's fun. It's the first mile that I've ever been on in my life. I was on this track when I was 18 years old and ran the Copper Classic a couple of times. It's a technical kind of fun race track for me. These guys bring me really good cars and that helps. More importantly, it's just good a starting spot for us this weekend. I think it will be a top-five starting spot. I don't know if it will be the pole, but I certainly hope it will. I think more probably like third or fourth by the time it's over."

"For us, it's an extremely good qualifying run. We weren't great this morning in practice. We tried some things, trying to go in a little bit different direction. The last couple of weeks haven't been what we have hoped for, and it's a fantastic run for all of us with the adversity that we have gone through as a team this week. We have had a little bit of a letdown. We feel like the battle is over, but we still two more fights two go."
CAN YOU TRY SOME AGGRESSIVE STRATEGIES THIS WEEK WITH THE POINTS SITUATION WHERE IT'S AT? "I think so. To be honest with you, I really didn't think about a championship. This is probably the first race all year long that I came to not thinking about a championship. I buy lottery tickets not thinking I'm going to win those. So if it happened last night, it could happen, but it's not very likely. I just want to end the year on a good note. We need to learn from our experience and end the year on a good note and then it will be a positive year. I'm not going to say that it's not going to be a positive year because we didn't win the championship, but we've got to learn from it and end on a positive note."

"We're happy with that, but, obviously, not overjoyed with it. We were hoping for a little bit better. We were too loose in practice and we didn't get as much practice today as we would have liked to. We had to serve a 30-minute penalty for being late for inspection in Charlotte, so we had to serve that penalty and that hurt us a little bit. We're pretty happy with that lap. We were too tight and we overcorrected a little bit based on the way we were in practice. But, we kinda wanted to. We thought that the track would get looser, and if anything it just gained more grip. We put it in the direction we wanted it to go in, and we thought we had done the right thing, but the track didn't change the way we thought it would. We'll be top six or seven and we can certainly win from there. I'm really happy with my car. We worked mainly on race setup this morning, and I'm real happy with what we've got. I'm a little disappointed with the qualifying effort, but not totally disappointed. We'd like to be on the pole, but we're not. Obviously, I like this race track. We've been successful here and we hope to be successful on Saturday and Sunday."
