Casey Mears' Thoughts On Phoenix International Raceway... "Phoenix can be tricky because of the dogleg on the backstretch and the retaining wall exiting turn two. When I was there last year in an IRL car we qualified in the 170 mph range and in the Busch car I expect it to be much slower. I'm pretty sure the same line I ran around the track in the IRL car will be different than the Busch car."
Crew Chief Donnie Richeson On Phoenix International Raceway . . . "Phoenix has some of the characteristics of St. Louis and Milwaukee with the exception of the dogleg on the backstretch at PIR. The only problem area that can exist at Phoenix is at the exit of turn two where the corner seems to tighten and the retaining wall sticks out. It's not uncommon to see cars graze the wall in that location throughout the race."
The Equipment... The Phillips 66 team will compete with "Chassis #17" this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. "Chassis #17" made its last appearance at Lowe's Motor Speedway, finishing 27th. The same car also ran at both Richmond races, New Hampshire, Nazareth, Nashville, Chicagoland, St. Louis and Indianapolis earlier this year.
Mears' Family Success At PIR... Casey Mears isn't the only member of the Mears family to compete at Phoenix International Raceway. His dad Roger made three starts at Phoenix in an Indy car while Mears' uncle Rick competed several times at PIR during his open-wheel career capturing five poles and winning four races including three races in a row 1989-'91.
