Parker Racing returns at NHIS By Brett Borden
CONCORD, N.H. (May 4, 1999) Team owner Ron Parker says Hermie Sadler is still his driver. After a rare one-week hiatus from the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division, Hermie Sadler and Parker Racing's No. 72 MGM Brakes Chevrolet will return to the circuit for Saturday's New Hampshire 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway. Team owner Ron Parker says people should misinterpret the missed event at California Speedway this past weekend.
"I withdrew the No. 72 MGM Brakes/Parker Racing entry from competition for the California race and the California race only," he said. "We continue to submit entry forms as we receive them from NASCAR with Hermie Sadler listed on the entry forms as our driver of record. Our crew continues to prepare the cars for future races and the Loudon car is ready to go.
"Buddy (transport driver) will leave the shop with the hauler on Tuesday to make that long trip north. He'll be loaded with not only the cars and equipment, but also a lot of confidence and a little luck. Confidence because we took a week off from the race track so our outside consultant would have time to evaluate each and every car and make his recommendations before we continued. That report is in and we are confident that his recommendations are just the shot in the arm that was needed to turn this program around. Luck -- and I'll throw in prayer -- for good weather because we're going to need it to make the race, now that we have no points to fall back on.
"Hermie is still my driver, Cal Northrop is still my crew chief and this team still has my support and the support of the sponsors. NASCAR has stayed in contact with me and I know we have their support as well. It's in no one's best interest for this team, or any member of this team, to fail."
The trip to New Hampshire is a return for Parker to his home region, as he is from the neighboring state of Massachusetts and a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston.
Saturday's race will mark the 10th annual visit to NHIS for Ron Parker as an owner/sponsor.
