It seems every time PJ Jones races at Gateway, he simply gets better. This weekend, Jones hopes to continue the trend of higher finishes as he transfers his experiences to stock car racing. "While competing in CART, we considered Gateway to be one of the tougher tracks on our schedule," Jones commented. "The track is very unique. It's a challenge to create a good set-up since turns one and two are definitely tighter than three and four. This is one place where you must initially focus your energies on a good qualifying run. Track position is critical because it's very difficult to pass. It will be good to return to Gateway. It might be a challenge, but that's what makes racing fun."
Gateway marks the first of two consecutive races held 'under the lights.' "I think racing at night is awesome," said Jones. "If you're watching from the stands, the cars look so much more spectacular. In a way, it kind of brings a lot of racers back to their roots - most of us started our careers by racing somewhere on a Saturday night under the lights. It's amazing what they've done to improve the lighting. Glare used to such a problem and now at some tracks, it's better than racing during the day."
The Busch Series Ladies Association (BSLA) will host an auction this Thursday, July 27, during the Fan Fest at the Crown Hotel/Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Illinois. Yellow has donated a brightly-colored Yellow Racing jacket and a Yellow Racing banner signed by PJ and Parnelli Jones. Emerald Performance Group (EPG) has donated two suite passes for next year's "CARQUEST Auto Parts 300" at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "The BSLA has supported our team in many ways, especially after we faced the tragic loss of Christain Lovendahl," commented team owner, David Ridling. "This is just our small way of showing our appreciation for all they have done and continue to do for the Busch Series family."
The "CARQUEST Auto Parts 250" will be broadcast live on TNN and MRN on Saturday, July 29 at 9:00 p.m. eastern.
