GREENSBORO, N.C. (November 11, 1998) --- Oakwood Homes Corporation announced today that they will renew primary sponsorship of both Andy Petree Racing, with Ken Schrader driving the No. 15 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series, and Jack O'Bannon Racing, with Rick Santos driving the Oakwood Homes Federal-Mogul Dragster on the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series.
"We were very pleased with the success the racing programs brought to our sales centers in 1998," said Jim Steinmeyer, Senior Vice President of Oakwood Homes. "We are happy to announce the renewal of our sponsorship with both programs which have represented our organization well. We look forward to increasing our presence in the NASCAR Busch Series and the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series in 1999."
Oakwood Homes became the primary sponsor of the No. 15 Andy Petree Racing Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway in June of 1998 and remained on the car for 11 NASCAR Busch Series races in 1998. In 10 NASCAR Busch Series starts, the No. 15 Chevrolet accumulated three top-10 finishes.
Oakwood Homes will be on the No. 15 Chevrolet for 14 Busch Series races in 1999 and one Winston West race. The Busch Series races are at Daytona International Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway (April), Talladega Superspeedway, Richmond International Raceway (May and September), Charlotte Motor Speedway (May and October), Gateway International Raceway, Michigan Speedway, North Carolina Motor Speedway (October), and Phoenix International Raceway. The one Winston West race will be run at California Speedway.
Oakwood Homes became the primary sponsor of Rick Santos' Federal-Mogul Dragster at Sears Point Raceway in July of 1998. The team accumulated nine wins in 13 starts throughout the year, two wins coming with Oakwood Homes on the car. Rick Santos also clinched his second consecutive national championship at the Revell Nationals in Dallas, Texas on October 25.
Some of the proposed national events the Oakwood Homes Federal-Mogul Dragster will compete in include the Winternationals at Pomona Raceway, the Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway, the Pennzoil Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, the Castrol Lone Star Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, the Fram Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, the Pontiac Excitement Nationals at National Trail Raceway (Ohio), the Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway (Colo.), the Visionaire Northstar Nationals at Brainerd (Minn.) International Raceway, the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park and the Matco Tools Supernationals at Houston Raceway Park. Jack O'Bannon Racing will choose the division in which they want to compete in 1999.
