DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 28, 1998)

Officials for the National Association for Stock Car Automobile Racing (NASCAR) announced today that they have levied penalties of $5,000 each to NASCAR Busch Series driver Joe Nemechek and Nemechek's crew chief, Brian Pattie.

The fines were a result of stop nuts found on the shock absorbers during Saturday's post-race inspection at the Touchstone Energy 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

The stop nuts were deemed in violation of Section 12, Rule 4, Article Q in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division Rule Book: Any parts and/or equipment used in the event...which have not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event...
