"Rookie Looks To Finally Debut SPEED RACER On The Track"
June 7, 2004 (Mooresville, North Carolina) -- The start of the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series season has not gone the way that Shane Wallace had hoped for. But he heads into Nashville this week looking to change his fortunes. The 20-year-old strolls into the Nashville Superspeedway with his #63 SPEED RACER Chevrolet for the running of the Federated Auto Parts 300.
"I am ready to get this #63 SPEED RACER car on the track under race conditions," stated Wallace. "We tested here again last week with this new tire and I think we turned some very competitive lap times in qualifying trim. We need to focus on getting into the show and then race from there."
Wallace has attempted two previous Busch Series starts this season but failed to qualify on time at both Nashville and Gateway. As a new start-up team there are no provisionals to fall back on so the early road this season has been a rough one. In all, the SPEED RACER team is anxious to make its 2004 debut on the track.
"This is a family owned start-up deal and we have struggled a bit out of the gate," stated Shane. "We have taken our lumps but I think we may have this thing where it needs to be to race competitively in this series. I look for a good showing for this team and the #63 SPEED RACER Chevrolet at Nashville this week. We have tested twice this season at this track and we attempted the first race here -- so we have enough laps around here to know where we need to be."
The Utica, New York native will be looking to make his second career start in the NASCAR Busch Series -- the only other being late last year at Richmond.
