Stremme's Comeback Spoiled by Mid-Race Spin
Lebanon, TN (June 13, 2004) -- David Stremme qualified 35th for Saturday's Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. From the drop of the green it was obvious Stremme and the TRIMSP X32 Dodge were headed to the front. Despite a tight handling condition in the middle of the turns Stremme, climbed into the tenth position by lap 45. However, a punctured tire on lap 57 caused Stremme to make an unscheduled stop, dropping him one lap down to the leaders. Stremme restarted in 30th position, competing for the "Lucky Dog" pass to allow him to get back on the lead lap.
"We struggled with the TRIMSPA Dodge a little during qualifying, but in race trim it was awesome," said Stremme.
When the caution came out again on lap 88 Stremme had just overtaken the position necessary to receive the "Lucky Dog" pass. After a red flag for rain halted the field on lap 95, Stremme was ready to mount a comeback from the 23rd position. By lap 117 Stremme had worked his TRIMSPA X32 Dodge up into the 17th position. But misfortune struck Team TRIMSPA once again as Stremme, driving on older tires than the rest of the leaders, lost control in turn two.
"We had a great car and I hate it for our sponsor and the guys on my team that this happened," said Stremme. "I just got too loose on old tires. But we will be back next weekend, and Kentucky Speedway is one of my favorite tracks. It's the perfect place to turn things around."
Stremme ended the day in the 35th position, dropping him one position to 19th in driver's points. Team TRIMSPA will be back on track this Saturday for the Meijer 300 Busch Series race at Kentucky Speedway. The event will be televised live Saturday, June 19th at 7:30 p.m. eastern time on FX and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
