"Running at Myrtle Beach is a test of survival. It's also not the most popular race on the schedule for the guys back in the body shop because they know there's usually a lot of work ahead of them after running there." --Buckshot Jones, driver of the No. 00 Cheez-It Chevrolet
Myrtle Beach Notes...
* The Buckshot Racing team will compete with a Pontiac Grand Prix this weekend at Myrtle Beach instead of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The team switched from the Grand Prix to the Monte Carlo in April after the Busch Series race at Talladega. This is the only event scheduled for the Pontiac.
"This is the last Pontiac we have in our shop," Jones said. "When you race the short tracks you're more susceptible to get the doors messed up and the nose of the car bent in. Since aerodynamics don't play a major role at Myrtle Beach, we'd rather have to repair the car by replacing the Pontiac body with a new Chevrolet body rather than trying to fix a Monte Carlo." * Jones has competed in four Busch Series events at Myrtle Beach Speedway, for a total of 1000 laps. Jones has completed 994 of the laps run in those four races which gives him a completion rate of 99.4 percent-- pretty strong for a short track.
* Buckshot Racing crew chief Sandy Jones was part of a clean sweep at Myrtle Beach back in July, 1997 when he and driver Elliott Sadler won the pole, set a track record and won the race.
* Happy Birthday-Buckshot's dad and team owner Billy Jones celebrated his birthday on Thursday, June 15.
Buckshot's Thoughts on Myrtle Beach...
"It can be a long night if your car doesn't handle well through the corners. Track position means a lot and you need to stay on the lead lap to be in contention." <pre> Buckshot Jones- Myrtle Beach Speedway NASCAR Busch Series Results Race ST FIN Earnings 7/17/1999 33 23 $13,280 7/11/1998 10 15 $6,855 7/12/1997 10 10 $7,875 6/22/1996 11 13 $3,255
