Marcos Ambrose, driver of the No. 59 Kingsford Charcoal/Match Light Ford Fusion sets the third fastest time in the NASCAR Busch Series Happy Hour on Friday afternoon. Ambrose has been in the top-five during the four practice sessions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
HOW WAS YOUR AFTERNOON PRACTICE SESSION? "We've been competitive all weekend long and in every session that we've been in. We've been right up-front there. We're excited about our race package. Some guys are driving way over the heads and are missing the chicanes, so it's hard to know who ran the top times and who didn't. Hopefully, we'll start somewhere near the front and I can put a decent qualifying lap together. I'm looking forward to a good day tomorrow. It means a lot to Wood Brothers/JTG and Kingsford to have a good run. We've been waiting a while to turn out a good round and I think this weekend it's a step in the right direction."
WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE YESTERDAY AND THIS MORNING? HAS THE RAIN OR INCREASE IN TEMPERATURE AFFECTED ANYTHING? "Times are a lot faster. Yesterday I was clocking at 43 seconds and today I'm doing 42 seconds, so we're gaining a few seconds and that's because the track is coming to us. The track is improving, the cars are handling better and we're pushing it harder. We've got our race motors and stuff in. We've got a lot of stuff working in our favor now, but that's it; that's all we got. We're going to roll-up tomorrow and see how things work then and see misses the chicane and who doesn't. Hopefully, we'll start near the front."
HAS NASCAR MENTIONED ANY PENALTIES FOR DRIVING THROUGH THE CHICANE? "They've said that they were going to watch it this afternoon and have some kind of control over the situation, which they will. We'll talk about that in the drivers meeting, I'm sure it's something like, 'don't gain a position or advantage by going through it.' Brake management is key here and if you're running out of brakes, or if you try and stop to late, you're not going to slow down, that's what is going to happen here. It's going to happen a few times in the race and I'm sure NASCAR will have it handled."
Stephen Leicht, driver of the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion was 12th during Happy Hour practice. Leicht makes his second NASCAR Busch Series road course start during this weekend's race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
HOW WAS YOUR PRACTICE THIS AFTERNOON? "Practice went good, we have a really good CitiFinancial Ford Fusion. The track is real fun. We were trying to make a qualifying run, we couldn't get a clean lap, and so we really don't know what it is capable of. To not get a clean lap and to post the 12th fastest time; we're pretty happy about how we ran today. We feel really good going into tomorrow."
WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE ON ROAD COURSES? "I love road courses, this is only my second race on a road course in a full-size car. Growing-up I raced go-karts on road courses, it's been a while and I'm real comfortable going right and left, and shifting up and down. It's a lot of fun."
