Brooklyn, Michigan – Innovative Motorsports, Inc. will expand its stable to include a second entry at all NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division events in 2000 with Mike McLaughlin joining current driver, Andy Santerre. Mike McLaughlin, a veteran on the NASCAR Busch Series, will drive an additional entry for the second year IMI team. "We are excited about Mike joining this team," George deBidart, owner of IMI, confirms. "Mike and Andy have a history together and they have the same type of hands-on approach to success." DeBidart continues, "We’re looking at this as one team, fielding two entries every week. You hear a lot about two-car and multi-car teams and in theory they seem logical, but in reality, they don’t always work. We will remain one team, but field two entries at each event." McLaughlin agrees, "This is an exciting opportunity for me. I’m looking forward to working closely with Andy. I think he is a talented driver and I know we can work together and learn from each other." McLaughlin adds, "George presented me with a great opportunity and one that I felt was the right direction for me at this point in my career." Andy Santerre, the 1998 Raybestos "Rookie of the Year", hopes to benefit from McLaughlin’s experience, "Mike is my ideal teammate. He and I have the same work ethic and background. We both come from the Northeast and had to build and work on our own race cars from the start. We both know the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful. I think by working together, we will be a force to reckon with in 2000." McLaughlin will pilot a yet-to-be-numbered 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. IMI hopes to announce a sponsorship agreement within the next month. McLaughlin, the second leading all-time money winner in the NASCAR Busch Series, has 181 starts, five wins, 40 top-five, and 69 top-10 finishes in his six-year Busch career.
