McLAUGHLIN HEADS TO BRISTOL WITH FOCUS ON WINNING
BRISTOL, TN - Despite his NASCAR Busch Series Points lead, its winning The Moore's Snacks 250 that Mike McLaughlin wants to talk about. Being a veteran of the series, McLaughlin has been in this position before, leading the point's race early on. The one position he hasn't been is the one on the championship stage at the end of the season. In order to make that dream a reality, McLaughlin knows he needs to win races, starting with the Moore's Snacks 250 this weekend.
McLaughlin knows his goal will be a tough one, Bristol has never been that kind to the Waterloo, NY native. His first two trips to Bristol were met with rejection, as he failed to qualify for both races in 1994. Following two tough races the next season, McLaughlin was determined to change his approach to the tough half-mile track. It was a little help from a new friend that seems to have turned McLaughlin's Bristol fortunes around.
On a Kyle Petty Charity Motorcycle ride across the country, McLaughlin got to know one of the "masters" of Bristol Motor Speedway. As they rode across the country, McLaughlin began to pick Harry Gant's mind about Bristol. Whatever Gant told McLaughlin must have worked. The next trip to Bristol saw McLaughlin qualify and finish in second place, leading 82 laps. From that race forward, McLaughlin has had solid races at Bristol. There's nothing like a little help from a friend.
"Harry shared his views on Bristol with me and it was a big help," McLaughlin said. "I hope to use that information again this weekend and grab my first Bristol win. The Goulds Pumps team has worked hard on our car for this weekend and I am ready to drive it to Victory Lane."
McLaughlin will tackle the Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday at 1:00pm. ESPN and Performance Racing Network will provide live coverage of the event.
