MEXICO CITY - Veteran NASCAR driver Scott Gaylord has added another accomplishment to a long list of varied experiences in his racing career.

The Lakewood, Colo., driver was called upon to qualify the Jimmy Means-owned #52 entry for last Sunday's NASCAR Busch Series Telcel MOTOROLA 200 presented by Banamex in Mexico. Gaylord qualified 25th quickest in a field of 50 entries, before turning the ride over to Jimmy Morales of Mexico who failed to qualify for the race.

Gaylord, who transitioned from road racing to NASCAR competition nearly 20 years ago, was excited about the opportunity to compete on the 2.5-mile road course known as Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

"It was great to be part of the first-ever NASCAR Busch Series championship points event outside the United States," Gaylord said. "I was glad to help Jimmy Means out in qualifying his car for this event and I was pleased to see the job Jimmy Morales did in finishing 20th in the race."

For Gaylord - who has raced in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series since 1988 - it was not the first time for him to compete on foreign land. He participated in the NASCAR exhibition races on the road course at Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka City, Japan, in 1996 and 1997 and returned to Japan the following year as part of the contingent of NASCAR drivers to take part in the 1998 event at Twin Ring Motegi.

Gaylord competed again at Twin Ring Motegi as the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series held its championship event there in 1999.

In addition to last Sunday's event in Mexico, Gaylord has also raced in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series events at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., Phoenix International Raceway and Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
