Paul Menard grabbed his first career Bud pole behind the wheel of the No. 111 Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Chevrolet with a lap of 176.062 mph. "We're learning through our trials and errors," said Menard. "This is actually a brand-new car and it's looking good so far."

Menard joined DEI earlier this season and has been quite impressive in competitive equipment.

"We definitely had all the tools there," commented Menard. "It was just up to Tony Gibon (crew chief) and me to sort everything out and put all the puzzle pieces together."

Cup regulars Kasey Kahne and Robby Gordon qualified second and third just a tick apart. Kahne posted a lap of 175.684 mph in the No. 38 Great Clips Dodge, while Gordon charted a 175.673 mph in the No. 55 Fruit of The Loom Chevrolet.

"We just screwed up," commented Kahne. "We made some adjustments that made the car go slower."

Kyle Busch, who is locked in a battle with Martin Truex, Jr. for the Busch series championship title was fourth.

"That's a good run for us," Busch said. "At least we are starting in front of Martin (Truex)."

Truex, Jr. completes the top five. Currently Truex leads championship standings by 152 points over the rest of the field.
