Mitchell Looking for Breakout Finish at Memphis
Driver Hoping to Gain Notoriety for 2008
This weekend, Marc Mitchell and the #12 Ergon Chevrolet team will head to the .75-mile Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park (MMP) for Saturday's Sam's Town 250. This will be Mitchell's final race of his 2007 season.
Mitchell will be making his second NASCAR Busch Series start of the season with CJM Racing. He finished 20th in the #11 Ergon Chevrolet at the Milwaukee Mile in June. This weekend, however, Mitchell will be piloting the #12 Ergon Chevrolet as a teammate to Jason Keller.
Taking over the crew chief duties for Mitchell this weekend will be a face very familiar to the 24-year-old rookie driver. NASCAR veteran Barry Dodson will lead the #12 Ergon crew at MMP. Mitchell and Dodson worked together in the ARCA RE/MAX Series event at the Chicagoland Speedway earlier this season. A top-five run was cut short by motor problems, but this gives them confidence that they can compete for a top-ten finish at Memphis.
In addition to the Busch race at Milwaukee, Mitchell made 12 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts in 2007. He finished with two top-five and four top-ten finishes. His best finish of the season came in the opening race at Daytona where he finished second.
Comments from Mitchell as he prepares for the Sam's Town 250:
"Barry and I worked really well together at Chicagoland. He has worked with and molded a lot of drivers. I just try to listen and soak up everything he says because he has seen just about everything. One thing about Barry is that he keeps everyone on the team pumped up because he knows very well that this is a team sport. He is confident that we can go to Memphis and make some noise. That gives me confidence as well. A little bit of confidence can go a long way."
"It's hard to believe that my season will be over after this race. Daytona seems like it was just yesterday. We've had a great year and I have to thank Ergon for all of their support. We're still going through some things to try to decide what we are going to do for next year. We have had some great talks with several different teams. A good run this weekend will go a long way in determining our 2008 program."
"You know, Memphis is a race that I have been looking forward to since the beginning of the season. Like most drivers I grew up on racing on asphalt short tracks. But with our ARCA program, we decided to focus on the speedway races because I needed that experience. It's going to be fun to get back to my roots a little bit. I think I still have what it takes."
"I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to race with a team like CJM Racing. This is a great race team that has shown that they can compete with the Cup-backed teams in the Busch Series. This will be my second race with them. Milwaukee was a good, solid race for us. I learned a lot from Jason Keller and Todd Gordon (#11 crew chief). This time Jason will be a teammate and I look forward to learning even more from him because he has been so good at Memphis in the past."
