Canadian John Graham in NASCAR Busch Race at Memphis...
Highpoint, NC --October 22, 2004 - Canadian driver - John Graham - starts his 3rd career NASCAR Busch race Saturday, October 23rd in Memphis, at the Sam's Town 250. He will be competing against the NASCAR Series regulars and in keeping with the event's salute to Elvis Presley -"He Dared To Rock" - Canadian singer songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will promote his latest album Harmony on the hood of the #72 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Graham.
Gordon Lightfoot has five Grammy nominations and 17 Juno Awards in his native Canada. In 1970, in recognition of his contributions in furthering Canadian culture, he received the prestigious Order Of Canada citation; in 1997 he was presented the Governor General's Award for his international efforts in promoting Canadian culture. Lightfoot was recently inducted into the Canadian Songwriter's Hall Of Fame. Artists who have recorded Lightfoot's songs include Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Sarah McLachlan, Barbra Streisand, Peter Paul & Mary, Harry Belafonte, Richie Havens, Glen Campbell, Anne Murray, and George Hamilton IV.
"Gordon helped me very early on in my racing career" Graham stated, " and its great to be involved in the promotion of his new album Harmony. NASCAR Busch is where we want to be in 2005 and our current plan is to run 6 races this year. We are looking forward to building on that in 2005." Graham is one of the few Canadians to have ever competed at any level in NASCAR and will be the only Canadian Driver racing in a NASCAR event this weekend.
In Graham's first Busch race, at IRP, he completed the race with a 31st place finish and finished 29th at Richmond. "I'm feeling a lot more comfortable in the car and I am looking forward to a good finish in the Sam's Town 250 race Saturday afternoon" Graham offered.
He went on to say that "Off-track, we (AURORA INVENTIVE) have worked very hard to get to this point. Rob (Fessler) has allowed me to concentrate on what I need to do while he continues to work with our associates in preparation for the full 2005 season. We have a solid strategy which, combined with the efforts of MacDonald Motorsport will allow us to reach our goal."
John Graham, although new to the NASCAR Busch Series, has raced in many forms of international motorsport that includes 7 starts at the 24 Hours Of LeMans event in Europe, and 3rd place in the American LeMans Series (ALMS) in 2001.
The Sams Town 250 NASCAR Busch race is set for a 3:30 PM ET start on Saturday, October 23rd . TNT and MRN will provide the television and radio coverage of what promises to be one of the most exciting races of the 2004 season!
