Memphis, TN (October 24, 2004) -- David Stremme and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge started the Sam's Town 250 in the 21st position. At the drop of the green Stremme began to climb through the field, up into the 10th position by the first pit stop of the day under caution at lap 50. With pit strategy divided throughout the field, Stremme restarted 20th.
"The TRIMSPA Dodge was excellent in race trim," said Stremme. "I think if we could have had just a little bit of track position that could have won this race."
Stremme avoided a three-car pileup on lap 63 and climbed into the sixth position, pitting for an extended stop to repair damage on lap 164. Tough racing on the previous green flag run had peeled back the door of the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge and duct tape was needed to replace it. Stremme lost 14 positions on pit road due to the extra work, and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge restarted in the 24th position.
"After that damage the ventilation in the car was no good and the fumes started to get to me," said Stremme.
Stremme began a final charge to the front, gaining several spots when the leaders pitted for fresh tires. In the closing laps Stremme was solidly in control of third position. However, a spin inside the final ten laps forced a green-white-checkered finish. In the final two laps Stremme laid it all on the line for the win, pushing his TRIMSPA X32 Dodge to the limit and scraping the wall. As a result, Stremme dropped to the seventh position in the final two laps.
"We did not come here to run second," said Stremme. "If we keep putting ourselves in position at the end of the race, one of these days we are going to come home with a win."
Stremme's 12th top 10 of the season raised him one spot to 11th in the Busch Series Driver Points. Team TRIMSPA will head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway next week to compete in the Aaron's 312 on October 30th. The event will be televised live at 1 p.m. eastern time on TNT and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with PRN and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
