Casey Mears grabbed the pole for the Target House 300 Busch series event at California Speedway, besting the field by charting a lap of 182.890 mph, a tick faster than rest of the forty-five contenders.

"What a great effort," said Mears. "To put the No. 41 Dodge on the pole in California really means a lot to me. I can't wait for the race this weekend. I just hope we can match this run with our Cup car here in a little bit."

It was a sweet welcome home for California native Mears, who now has two- career Busch series pole awards (the last one coming at Chicagoland Speedway in 2003).

Series point leader Martin Truex, Jr. will take the green flag from the outside pole, with a lap of 182.228 mph. It was an impressive lap, as Truex took the track first and his time managed to hold up through track changes and temperature fluctuations.

"I wish we could have gotten the pole," said Truex. "But I am happy with that, we will have a good spot on Saturday."

Kasey Kahne was third quickest. "It's always good to start up front," said Kahne. "I hope we have this good of a run in our Cup car. It should be a good race for us on Sunday."

Kyle Busch and Joe Nemechek complete the top five.

This is the first fall event in Fontana for the Busch series, since NASCAR moved the traditional races on Labor Day weekend from Darlington to Fontana this season. Grueling temperatures in Darlington were given as one of the reasons to move the race to a more temperate climate, since landing in Southern California temperatures have resided in the high 90's with high humidity; not making it a much more comfortable race than Darlington's 100 degree race last season.
