DOVER, DE --- Goulds Pumps NASCAR Busch Series driver Mike McLaughlin is ready to visit victory lane again at Dover Downs International Raceway. In 1995, the Waterloo, NY native won his first of five career Busch Series races at the one-mile oval. McLaughlin, winless since October of 1998 (Charlotte) has his sights set directly on a return to the winner's circle.
"We are taking a great car to Dover this weekend, it's the same car that Ward Burton finished 5th with substituting for me in Darlington," McLaughlin said. "Bobby Leslie has been helping us out the past few months and between him and my crew, they have made a few changes to the car to make it even better. I can't tell you how bad I want to win this weekend."
After and up and down type year, a win would be the perfect medicine for the Goulds Pumps Racing Team. On many occasions this year, McLaughlin has found himself running in the lead pack, only to have disaster strike in the form of blown engines, accidents or just plain bad luck. However, the confidence in his Innovative Motorsports Team to get the job done remains strong.
"My guys haven't given up this year and I am not about to give up either," McLaughlin said. "It's been a tough year on all of us, but throughout it all we have become stronger and we are developing into a solid race team."
McLaughlin will be looking to draw upon his years of experience on the tough "Monster Mile" of Dover Saturday afternoon. With a little luck and McLaughlin's desire for a victory, this could be the weekend that "Magic Shoes" breaks back into the win column. And if he does, look out below, McLaughlin has been known to throw a pretty wild party in victory lane.
