Richert Hopes to Lead Purvis to a Win in Kentucky
......Veteran crew chief has visited many new facilities over the years
SPARTA, KY --- MBNA Racing crew chief Doug Richert has visited many new racing facilities since first becoming a crew chief at the young age of 19 for the late Dale Earnhardt in 1979. This weekend will bring along another new racing facility for Richert, The Kentucky Speedway. Richert and driver Jeff Purvis had the opportunity to visit the Kentucky Speedway on a couple of occasions last year to test the 1.5 mile racing facility. Richert hopes to apply the information from those testing sessions this weekend as he calls the shots for Clarksville, TN native Jeff Purvis.
With Purvis standing in sixth place in the season long NASCAR Busch Series Points race, Richert hopes to deliver a car capable of winning the inaugural Kentucky Speedway Busch Series race.
"We are really looking forward to a strong race this weekend," Richert said. "Even though our testing last year was on a different tire, I believe we can apply the information and find a fast setup for the MBNA Pontiac."
Richert will also use information from similar race tracks on the NASCAR circuit while setting up the # 18 MBNA Pontiac.
"The track is kind of like Las Vegas, with 2 different ends, turns three and four have more banking and runoff. Then you get to turns one and two and the track becomes tighter and flattens out," Richert said. "If we can get the car to sweep through the center and keep it turning off the corners we will be good on Saturday night."
The MBNA Racing Team owned by NFL Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs will be one to watch on Saturday night. With his many years of experience, Doug Richert will reach into his bag of tricks and hopefully figure out the right combination to lead Purvis to victory lane.
