Busch Drivers Have Plenty Practice Time For Goody's 250
MARTINSVILLE, VA (May 23, 2006) -- The Busch Series has been away from Martinsville Speedway for a decade, but drivers will have plenty of practice on the half-mile oval before the July 22 running of the Goody's 250.
There will be an open practice session for the Busch Series cars on Thursday, July 20 and a second day of practice on Friday, July 21 before qualifying and the Goody's 250 on Saturday, July 22.
The Thursday practice will allow any NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers entered in the event a day of practice without interfering with the Friday Cup schedule at Pocono Raceway. Those drivers are expected to skip their final practice session at Pocono on Saturday and get to Martinsville in time for qualifying at 12:05.
"We think NASCAR came up with a good schedule for everyone involved," said Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. "There are a lot of drivers in the Busch Series who have never raced at Martinsville before and this gives them two full days of practice if they want. It's great for the fans because they've got two days to watch practice and then a great day of racing on July 22nd."
Thursday's open practice will be free to the public. Admission to Friday's practice will be $5.
There will be two practice sessions on Thursday, July 20, the first from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Friday, July 21, there will be a practice from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. followed by a rookie practice from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The final practice will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 21.
Qualifying is set for 12:05 p.m. Saturday, July 22 with the Goody's 250 set to start at 3 p.m.
Goody's 250 tickets are on sale and may be purchased by calling 877.RACE.TIX or visiting www.racetickets.com on the web. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 the day of the event.
