CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Michael Waltrip and the No. 7 BAND-AID® Brand Chevrolet team looked strong all day long at Lowe's Motor Speedway. However, Waltrip and many other cars in contention for the win were bit by the fuel mileage bug, which cost them the race.

Waltrip started the event in the 14th position. He felt confident as the defending champion of the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 that he would be a contender for the win on Saturday.

When the green flag dropped Waltrip wasted no time breaking into the top 10. He was a little loose, so the team made an air pressure adjustment on the first round of pit stops. Then the Michael Waltrip show began as he power housed his No. 7 Chevrolet around the track, passing the competition and gaining track distance on the leaders.

Waltrip continued on his charge to the front until a fuel mileage situation with less than 10 laps to go. Waltrip, along with many of the top contenders had to come into the pits for a splash of fuel to finish the event. Waltrip finished 14th.

The next Busch Grand National race for Waltrip is at the North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, N.C. on October 21, 2000.
