Ridling Keeps Promise to Lepage Delivers New 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Mooresville, N.C. (January 8, 1997) - Ridling Motorsports team owner David Ridling kept his promise and delivered a brand new 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to his driver Kevin Lepage. In November, the day before Lepage marched to his career first NASCAR Busch Series victory at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, Ridling made a deal with his 34-year-old driver. If Lepage brought his No. 88 Hype Chevrolet to victory lane the next day, he would receive a brand new Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Shelburne, Vermont native not only won the race but dominated, leading 94 of the 200 laps. The race was also the first career victory for Ridling Motorsports. "Talking to David the night before the race in Homestead, he made a deal with me that if we won the race, I would get a new car," explained Lepage. "After we won, I quickly reminded him of our deal during the post-race interview." On December 30, Lepage took delivery of a fully-equipped burgundy Monte Carlo. Lepage's first test drive in the new car was a seven hour journey to Florida where he attended a family wedding. "Now I know why the Monte Carlo is such a fantastic race car," said Lepage. "The car is just perfect." "It's a small price to pay for a victory," joked Ridling.
