LEPAGE FINISHES FOURTH AT DOVER
Kevin Lepage posted his second top five finish in as many weeks Saturday at the NASCAR Busch Grand National GM Goodwrench/Delco Battery 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway. Lepage started the #88 HYPE - Ryder Driver Recruiting Monte Carlo 19th on the grid after posting a fast lap time of 24.761 seconds (145.390 mph) around Dover Down's 1-mile high banked oval. Dick Trickle sat on the pole with a fast lap time of 24.173 seconds (148.926 mph). Lepage quickly moved toward the front in the beginning stages of the race. When the first caution flag came out on Lap 7 for Jeff Krogh's spin in Turn 3, he was already up to 15th place. Lepage hooked up with Jeff Burton on Lap 23 and together they started picking off positions. When the second caution came out on Lap 51 they were running eighth and ninth. Both drivers made pit stops, but Burton came out in fourth place, three positions ahead of Lepage. Several laps later, Dick Trickle and Lepage started battling for position. Just after Trickle made a pass on Greg Sacks, he came down out of Turn 2 just a second too soon and was tagged by Lepage bringing out the fourth and final caution of the day on Lap 73. By Lap 80, Lepage had piloted the HYPE Monte Carlo into fourth place and by Lap 90 was in third. Lepage stayed in third place and was waiting out another caution period for tires and fuel. As the race wound down, it became apparent the leaders were going to have to make a green flag pit stop. Lepage tried to pit with Burton, but couldn't get down onto the apron in time, so he had to wait another lap. "I saw the 9 car jump in and I decided to pit with him," commented Lepage. "My call. I couldn't get slowed down enough and we had to go back up on the track. That costs us track position." Lepage ended the day in fourth, behind race winner Bobby Lebonte, Burton and Randy LaJoie. "I wished I had been able to pit a lap earlier," said Lepage after the race. "But a fourth place finish is great here at Dover. I've run well here, but never finished well. The guys on the crew have done a great job this year. We are now back to where we were at the end of last year. All we need is another win. The second in Charlotte was great, but it's still not like the victory at Homestead."
