(Cushing Maine 7-19-01) Chuck Lachance and his #38 Rockland Ford Pro Stock battled the top teams of New England to finish 9th in the 28th annual Oxford 250. The team was very happy with a top ten in the premier short track race of the northeast. This race is the Daytona 500 for the drivers that compete in the event.
The team had a good setup right out of the trailer. The car was running really well and looked like one of the cars to beat in Saturday practice. By the time qualifying rolled around many of the cars had found some more speed.
The team drew 58th starting position for the heat races. This put Chuck in the back of the 4th heat race. It didn't take him long to move through the pack. With the laps running down he moved into 3rd place and started working on 2nd. There wasn't enough laps remaining and he ended the heat race in 3rd place. This put the LAstCHANCE Ford Thunderbird 16th on the grid for the 250.
>From his 16th starting position Chuck battled his way through the pack. The team struggled to keep on the lead lap. All the traffic made it difficult keep pace with the leaders. Chuck fell victim to Ralph Nason's speedy Mustang putting him a lap down.
The team didn't give up. Lead by crew chief and front tire changer Adam Lachance, the crew of Jaison, Terry, Kim and Caleb pulled off an assume pit stop. After the race Chuck told the crew how proud he was of them. These guys can really pull off great stops.
With the speed of the leaders and the large number of cars on the track, Chuck fell another lap down. When the checkered fell on Gary Drew, Chuck and the rest of team was thrilled with their posted 8th place finish.
The team was surprised to find that the track had changed their finishing position to 15th the next day. The team protested the 15th place result that was clearly wrong. Upon review the track found that the team had finished 9th. We are happy the track took the time to review this. It is an import race, and we want to be reward the position we earned on the track.
The team would like to thank our sponsors for their support. An extra big thanks goes out to KDT Towing and Repair of Augusta. KDT bought 2 sets of tires that helped the team be more competitive. We would also like to thank Rockland Ford, RMRT Consulting, Haulmark Race Trailers by On the Road Trailers Warren, JBS painting, Swift Storage, George Hall Construction, and Cayouette Flooring.
The LAstCHANCE RACING team has a great 2001 Season. The team has posted top 10 finishes in every race except one. The season started with a win in the 101 Lap Pro Stock open event at Unity Raceway. With less then 15 laps to go, the 38 team was leading the PASS 150 at Speedway. Chuck was spun by Ben Rowe; who went on to win the race. Chuck was able to make a great recovery and managed to finished 5th.
The team is looking forward to another great finish in the Coastal 200. The team will resume the race in the 5th position. The race was stopped due to rain and will be completed on Sunday July 29th.
