Menard Qualifies 11th for Saturday's Sam's Town 300
LAS VEGAS (Friday, March 11, 2005) -- Paul Menard and the #11 Menards/Moen Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., will start Saturday's Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the inside of the sixth row after qualifying today on the 1.5-mile tri-oval here.
Menard circled the track with a fast lap of 168.518 mph (32.044 seconds), good for 11th on the 43-car starting grid among 51 car-and-drivers attempting to qualify.
Race time Saturday is 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EST) with a live broadcast set for the FX cable network.
"I feel good about the lap, but it was definitely freer than we thought it would be - and I use that term in the loosest sense of the word; it was as close to ice racing as I've ever come on pavement. I think I was in a slide for the entire lap, maybe even on the straights. Coming through Turns 3 and 4, I just kept in it and somehow it kept with me. Actually, it was really fun and for as big an adventure as it was, somehow we put up a time that was faster than we ran in practice. I thought it would even stick in the top-10, but we just barely missed it."
