BUSCH: Kyle Petty to drive Sprint car at Dover

CONCORD, N.C. (May 25, 2000) Sprint and Petty Enterprises announced Thursday that Kyle Petty will drive the No. 45 Sprint Chevrolet in the June 3 NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway.

Petty will also return to the seat of his No. 44 Hot Wheels Pontiac at Dover, competing in the June 4 NASCAR Winston Cup Series MBNA Platinum 400.

Neither Petty nor the No. 45 team has competed since the death of Adam Petty following a crash during practice at New Hampshire International Speedway on May 12. The No. 45 team is sitting out this weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, while Steve Grissom is substituing in the No. 44 Pontiac at LMS.

No determination has been made regarding plans for the No. 45 Sprint Chevrolet beyond the race at Dover.

"Our organization is an extremely close-knit group of people," Petty said. "Our relationship with Sprint is the same way, and we've worked hand-in-hand with them to get to this point.

"Right now the best thing for our team and for Sprint is to work toward getting the No. 45 car back on the race track. Racing is our business, and has been at Petty Enterprises for more than 50 years. It's important that we get back on the track."
