BUSCH: Kerry Earnhardt out at FitzBradshaw Racing

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - A lackluster season in the Busch Series just got worse for the son of seven time Winston Cup champion, Dale Earnhardt. FitzBradshaw Racing announced today that Kerry Earnhardt would no longer serve as the primary driver for the teams No. 12 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

"It's our desire to field the best teams on the track; it is a commitment we make to ourselves and to our sponsors," said Armando Fitz, team co-owner. "Kerry has proven he is a strong driver. He has driven up front, but the team is simply not gelling right now."

"And if we want to win, we need to gel."

Tim Fedewa, a veteran who has four series wins, will replace Earnhardt beginning with this weekend's event in Loudon, New Hampshire. Fedewa has been serving as the spotter for the No. 12 team this season, and served as crew chief for the team during the Kentucky NBS event.

"Tim Fedewa, we think, is the right choice for the team at this time," said Fitz. "He has four Busch Series wins, so he understands what it takes to grab a checkered flag at this level. We haven't made an exact determination of how long Fedewa will be in the seat.

"That depends on the level of success we achieve and how we ultimately evaluate how we can best use our driving talent. What's most important right now is that we begin achieving the kind of on-track success that we need for both FitzBradshaw Racing and for our sponsors."

After two seasons of driving for the No. 12 team, Earnhardt has only scored two top-five finishes. He has nine finishes of 30th or worse. Earnhardt with the backing of Fitz-Bradshaw Racing has also tried to run several Winston Cup races; he has failed to qualify for any of them.
