WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 22, 1998)
Kathryn "Kat" Teasdale will be driving the No. 54 Team IGA Chevrolet in five races this season, starting with Sunday's NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen International. The 200-mile road race will be road racing veteran Teasdale's first entry in the NASCAR Busch Series.
Teasdale will also be competing in NASCAR Busch Series races this season at the Milwaukee Mile, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Michigan Speedway and Dover Downs International Speedway. Teasdale plans to maintain her rookie status in 1998 and then run a full schedule in 1999, competing for the title of Raybestos Rookie of the Year.
Kat & Company Racing, Inc. was formed from the original Black Kat Racing team that began in the spring of 1988. Founded by Teasdale to form the basis for her racing career, the team grew from starting in the FF2000 series in SCCA, to the Players GM Motorsports Series in Canada, her first professional series. Two years ago KATko Racing was developed from Black Kat Racing to pursue her NASCAR racing career.
Sponsor IGA, Independent Grocers Alliance, is the world's largest voluntary supermarket network. Coca-Cola has partnered with IGA to support the No. 54 Car, bringing Teasdale into the Coca-Cola Racing Family with Todd Bodine, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliot, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Kyle Petty and Ricky Rudd.
Hometown favorite Mike McLaughlin of Waterloo, N.Y., is the defending champion of the Lysol 200.
