Indianapolis is Jones' Family Second Home:
Driver, PJ Jones, won't need a map to get around this town - he's been visiting "the circle city" since he was a toddler. "I was born on April 23, and within two weeks, my parents had me at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the month of May," Jones said. "When our family is in Indianapolis the fans help us recall some really great moments for my Dad (Parnelli Jones) and a few highlights of my own when I raced in USAC. No matter which track or race, the city's support of motorsports is tremendous. I'm sure it will be yet another great weekend of racing."
Team Returns to Basics for IRP:
George Church, crew chief for the #19 Yellow/Pameco team has decided to "go back to basics" for the one-day event, bringing a 1½" drop-snout car with a short-track motor freshened after being used at South Boston and Myrtle Beach. "As the phrase goes, sometimes you have to go backwards to move forward," Church commented. "We've put the updated technology aside for this motor and are relying on what has given us confidence in the past. We know we need to qualify well because IRP is another track where it's hard to pass. If you can start up front with a car that can run down low, you've got a chance to win."
Jones Recalls Uniqueness of IRP:
IRP is definitely a place for patience," Jones described. "IRP has a high groove and you're forced to run up at the top of the track for most of the race. You can go low to pass, but you can't stay there long or you'll lose grip and heat up the tires too quickly. The bottom is just too flat versus the rest of the track to be able to stay there for the duration of the race. IRP is a place where you think before you move - strategy is key."
The "Kroger 200" will be broadcast live on ESPN and MRN on Friday, August 4 at 8:30 p.m. eastern.
