THIS IS THE SECOND WEEK THAT YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE A BAD CAR AND TURN IT INTO A GOOD FINISH. "It's stressful to do that, though. It's been awful hard for us and it was a hard-fought race for us all night trying to keep coming in and working on the car to make it better. We just kept digging there. The guys on the Nesquik Ford never gave up and they kept making changes. Because we qualified so poorly and we had such bad track position anyway, we just kept pitting and kept working on the car. The very last pit stop we made, we put left-side tires on and made another adjustment and it really flipped the switch and got the car going. We were able to drive our way up to a top-five finish and that was great for us."
DID YOU KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE NO. 37 CAR IN THE CLOSING LAPS? "We keep tabs on each other. David Green is a great competitor. I enjoy racing with him. I want to beat him just like he wants to beat me, but he and I are still great friends off of the race track."
"We were bad and we didn't run fast laps in practice and we didn't make a fast qualifying lap. We never made a fast lap the whole night. Because we qualified so poorly we kept coming in the pits and kept working on the car and the guys never gave up. We kept working on the car and the very last run we made we came in and out on left-side tires and made an another adjustment and it was like it just finally flipped the switch on the car. It got the car where it would really turn good for us in the center of the corner and we could still drive off the corner strong. I couldn't believe it when we finally ran up and ran David down there at the end. We were making a hard charge there. Me and him were racing pretty hard and it seemed like the caution came out and the 23 spun and David had to slow down a little bit so I got him that way. I guess I snookered him on that last one."
BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Finished 35th)
"I think it's leaking oil between the head and the block where the plate goes over, but I'm not for sure. It's a shame for all of these guys. They busted their butts on this car all week long, but we'll put this behind us. We're going to Michigan and kick their butts there. We'll take this thing and see if we get some laps and go win Michigan."
HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO FIX THE PROBLEM? "Right now they can't find it. It's kind of a situation where they're trying to find anything. If we can, we can, and if we can't, we'll just go from here. Tonight, we'll get out there and get us some points and go to Michigan and kick their butt there."
JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Finished 2nd)
"It was a great day for us. The Albertsons Ford ran great all day long. I probably cost us a chance to win. I stalled off of pit road leaving and we actually had the 5 car beat off of pit road. I won my first Busch race here in '95, so congratulations to Brian. He's a great talent and a great race team. We came close, though. We were really good, but I've been a little bit too much of a nice guy there at the end, so it just cost me a little bit."
YOU SEEMED TO SAVE YOUR BEST FOR LAST. WERE YOU WATCHING THE BATTLE IN FRONT OF YOU HOPING TO CAPITALIZE AT THE END? "Steve (Addington) kept really plugging and really pushing me hard. I wanted to give up when I was behind him and I was running fourth but Steve wouldn't let me, so he kept riding the jockey pretty hard there and it paid off. I keep going back to when I stalled coming off of pit road, but veterans make mistakes even now and then and I definitely made one tonight."
KASEY KAHNE-38-Great Clips Ford Taurus (Finished 14th)
"From our experience here tonight, I'm just figuring out that I need to learn what the car needs because we seem to miss it more than we get it right. I've somehow got to figure out what a car needs at a start of a race to make it through the whole 200 laps. The Great Clips was on the track and that's about it. I've got a lot of experience here, but this track changes so much that it's hard even if you have experience to do good here. We just need to get our cars better; that's all there is to it.
