NASCAR Busch Series start at IRP
"Rookie Driver Excited About Opportunity"
Liberty, SC (Wednesday, July 30th, 2003) - - NASCAR Busch Series rookie Brent Moore is ready to show his stuff as the Busch Series rolls into Indianapolis Raceway Park for this weekend's Kroger 200 on Saturday night.
Moore, a former competitor in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series will pilot the No. 96 ORTEC Motorsports machine for the first time this season.
"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to drive the No. 96 Chevrolet Monte Carlo this weekend," noted Moore from his home in South Carolina Tuesday.
"Tony Burgess (Car Owner) has given me an opportunity of a lifetime to compete in one of the greatest racing series in the United States, and I hope that I bring everything the team is looking for this weekend," he added.
"Also, I want to thank Dr. Larry Brotherton (Owner of ORTEC) for putting his faith in me and this race team and allowing us to compete in this weekend's event, it means the world to me."
In addition to Burgess and Brotherton, Moore wanted to boast about his ORTEC Motorsports crew.
"The crew is unbelievable, they work hard, with one goal in mind winning, I want to thank them for all the hard work this season and hope Saturday night will be a race we won't soon forget."
Brent has competed in one NASCAR Busch Series event prior to this weekend's race.
He competed in last year event from Pikes Peak International Raceway.
However it was not the run he was looking for in his Busch debut, as an early altercation took him out less than ten laps into the event.
"I want to bounce back from that disastrous finish at PPIR last year," said the former late model driver.
Brent, who is competing in a limited schedule in the USAR (United Speed Alliance Racing) program in 2003 has set his goals for the weekend.
"The main goal is to qualify."
"We want to turn some heads in practice, but after that we have to get in the show, there is going to be a very competitive field their this weekend, and in order to have a shot at the win, we've got to be in the show," added Brent.
Brent, a native of South Carolina wants to have a respectable finish this weekend. "Of course, it would be nice to score a top ten finish, but realistically we're shooting for a top twenty, I think if we qualify decent, miss all the incidents and stay on the lead lap, there's no reason we can't make that happen."
ORTEC Motorsports, which is hoping to run for the NASCAR Busch Series championship in 2004 is considering having Brent Moore pilot their machine in a couple more events this season.
"It would be an honor to drive in more races after IRP, at this point though it's one step at a time, we have to get through IRP, and then we'll see what happens," he said.
Saturday won't mark the first time that he has worked with ORTEC Motorsports this season. Brent has been a crewmember for the team this year with drivers Brad Baker, Gus Wasson and Tim Edwards in a limited schedule.
The Kroger 200 from Indianapolis Raceway Park is ready for the NASCAR Busch Series to invade this Saturday, August 2nd, 2003. TNT and MRN radio will have live coverage of the event beginning at 8:00pm EST.
