Galaxy Foods 300 Notebook By NASCAR Online Staff

HICKORY, N.C. (March 28, 1997) The following are notes from Friday's canceled Busch Pole Qualifying for the Galaxy Foods 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway:

For the second time in 1997, the field was aligned by the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division owner points.

Jason Jarrett, son of NASCAR Winston Cup driver Dale Jarrett, will start the Galaxy Foods 300 in his father's Ford from 28th position, thanks to his father's current standings in the owner points.

Nine drivers had to leave Hickory earlier than planned after the field was set on owner points. They are: Chris Diamond, Jeff McClure, Rodney Combs, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Junior Purcell, Kevin and Wayne Grubb, and Jeff and Mark Krogh.

Two yellow flag stops will happen on laps 100 and 200 for scheduled pit service during Saturday's Galaxy Foods 300 race. Each yellow flag stop will last for five laps and will not count towards to scheduled 300 laps. The field will be re-aligned the same way they were when the yellow flag was thrown. NASCAR implement the rule to ease congestion on pit road during the race.

Only three rookie candidates qualified for Saturday's race. They are: Steve Park, Johnny Chapman and Tim Steele.
