Todd Bodine Named Driver Of Herzog Jackson Motorsports Chevrolet
Veteran Driver Will Pilot Excedrin Chevrolet for Remainder of Season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 13, 2002) -- Herzog Jackson Motorsports, which fields the No. 92 Excedrin Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series, has named NASCAR veteran Todd Bodine as the team's driver. Bodine will make his first appearance in his new role this weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
"The goal of Herzog Jackson Motorsports has always been to be as competitive as possible," stated owner Randy Herzog "We feel fortunate to have been able to find someone of Todd Bodine's caliber. We were hoping to find a driver that could bring a great deal experience to the team, and that is exactly what we were able to do. Todd's Busch Series statistics are exceptional and everyone involved with the Herzog Jackson Motorsports Excedrin Racing team is looking forward to the future."
Bodine, who drove for Haas Carter Motorsports in the Winston Cup Series in 2001 and for the first three events this season, takes over for Andy Houston, who was released from the Herzog Jackson Motorsports team in early March.
"Herzog Jackson Motorsports is a first-class organization," said Bodine. "They have great equipment, great people and a winning attitude -- all of the elements that it takes to win races and that's what I am here to do. I feel very lucky to have been given this opportunity and look forward to working with the Herzogs, Reggie Jackson, Tony Liberati and all of the people associated with Excedrin Racing."
No stranger to the NASCAR Busch Series, Bodine, a native of Chemung, N.Y., participated in 16 Busch Series events in 2001, and in those races posted seven top-10 finishes, six top-fives and two victories. In 252 career Busch Series starts he has accumulated 13 wins and six pole positions. Bodine, 38, has racked up 11 victories in the NASCAR Busch Series since his first race in 1986 at the age of 22, and scored his first victory in just his 22nd start, which took place at Dover (Del.) Downs International Speedway in 1991. He finished a career high second in the point standings in 1997.
Bodine, who is married to Lynn and has one daughter, also has plenty of Winston Cup experience under his belt. In 148 starts, Bodine has earned five pole positions, three of which came last season, and six top-five finishes.
Herzog Jackson Motorsports, owned by Bill Herzog and his sons Randy and Stan along with baseball legend Reggie Jackson, was formed in 1986 and participated initially in off-road racing events. The team began competing full-time in the Busch Series in 2000 and finished in the top-10 in owner point standings for two straight years with Jimmie Johnson behind the wheel. Currently, the team holds down 11th place in the standings.
